The first below zero days of winter always brings an expectation of unusual weather phenomena near Lake Superior and this morning was no exception. With the temperatire if -5F, the chilled waters of Lake Superior shrowded this ocean freighter in icy fog, while the rising sun cast its rays across the landscape.
Fishing Shack on Stony Point
This shack served it's purpose many years ago, and now stands in silent watch over Lake Superior. It's working days are over, but, like an old grandpa, it represents an important heritage to those who pass by.

When the business of life weighs you down, a quite walk on a moonlit night helps put things into perspective.
The beautiful solitude along the shore of Lake Superior on this particular evening, with the soft light and the setting moon was a reminder that the creator of the universe, was here in the beauty of creation. I felt small in His presence and comfort in knowing that the same God who brought the elements together for this display of glory, was the same God that watches over me and over you.
I drove home that night thinking of the Hymn - "It Is Well With My Soul", and it was.

The numbing cold of winter (-20 F) returned for a brief visit to the Northland, providing an opportunity to view the beauty created when artic air blows across the open water of Lake Superior.

This old fishing shack on Stoney Point was surrounded with frost covered goldenrod as it stood fast against the frigid off lake wind.
The photographer however wasn't so stead fast and I soon retreated to the warmth of the car after I couldn't feel my fingers anymore.
What a pleasure to be able to enjoy creation of clear and cold winter days.
