July 5 - Distant Horizon - In mid-summer, the azimuth of the sunrise is once again moving south, and soon we will notice the shorter daylight hours. Looking up the North Shore of Lake Superior on a summer morning is always a refreshing sight and a reminder that time is moving on. Light passing through the dense, moist surface air leaves the stronger magenta wavelengths to shine through. For thou wilt light my candle: the Lord, my God, will enlighten my darkness. Psalm 18:28

I always stop by Split Rock State Parke when I head up the North Shore of Lake Superior, and this day was no different. A sunny afternoon with light winds made for a pleasant afternoon. The waves were stirred up from a passing cold front the day before, and the beauty of the lake, with fresh snow and emerald and blue waves rolling onto the beach, created an incredible winter scene. In this unexpected situation, all you can say is WOW while your heart pounds as you maneuver across the ice covered rocks for a better vantage point. You rule the swelling of the sea; When its waves rise, You still them. Psalm 89:9 Thank you, Lord, for such a display of Your Power and Beauty in this beautiful place.

Double Rainbow

July 22 - Rainbows over St. Louis River - Passing showers during July often produce amazing rainbows across the Northland. This double rainbow marched through the skies following a late afternoon thunderstorm. A double rainbow occurs when the light is reflected twice in a separate shower from two different directions. Notice that the second rainbow is slightly higher and fainter in color than the first rainbow and has its colors reversed. The rainbow has always been a sign of hope. So the next time you see a rainbow, remember that God placed it there for you to remember Him. When the rainbow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” Genesis 9:16

Summer Splendor - Palisade Head

July 27 - Summer Splendor - Palisade Head near Silver Bay MN on the North Shore of Lake Superior is a hidden gem for photographing the shoreline of the big lake. The lichen-covered sheer cliffs drop 300 feet into the crystal clear water. You can see Shovel Point at Tettegouche State Park in the distance, a popular spot for rock climbing. The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. Psalm 18:2
