northernimages > Located near Silver Bay Minnesota, Palisade Head offers one of the most spectacular views of the entire North Shore of Lake Superior.
northernimages > The showy lady's slipper is Minnesota's state flower. It is one of 43 orchid species that grow in Minnesota. Many people, myself included, consider it the most beautiful flower in the state. Interestingly, some people get a rash from touching the leaves of this lovely orchid. After arriving early in the morning, to photograph the Lady's Slippers in the calm damp morning air, I was simply amazed at the awesome beauty in this one patch of flowers. It became even more breathtaking as I zoomed in on this single flower. Like much of Gods creation, you see more glory as you take a closer look. As I stooped down to make sure the focus was correct, I couldn't help thinking how short the time was that this blossom would live, in a matter of a few days, it would be gone and no one would be able to enjoy it again. Than I considered how short our own life is on this earth, and how it is gone so quickly. Remember to make the days count, and give thanks to our creator for each one.
northernimages > The forest around Split Rock Lighthouse became a winter wonderland after a two foot snowfall blanketed the area duing a December storm.
northernimages > A pair of loons seemed to be watching and enjoying the summer sunset . As I nudged my Kayak closer to the pair, they seemed to enjoy the company as daylight drifted into darkness and the curtains slowly closed on another beautiful day on Caribou Lake.
northernimages > This shack served it's purpose many years ago, and now stands in silent watch over Lake Superior. It's working days are over, but, like an old grandpa, it represents an important heritage to those who pass by.

northernimages > During late winter, ice embraces the shores of Lake Superior like a necklace. The beauty of this natural wonder adds a quiet white finishing touch to the never ending glory of Gods creation.
northernimages > The Northern Lights are constantly in motion because of the changing interaction between the solar wind and the earth's magnetic field. The solar wind commonly generates up to 1000,000 megawatts of electricity in an auroral display and this can cause interference with power lines, radio and television broadcasts and satellite communications. By studying the auroras, scientists can learn more about the solar wind, how it affects the earth's atmosphere and how the energy of the auroras might be exploited for useful purposes.
northernimages > Great Gray Owls are wintering over in the region due to a lack of food in their normal Canadian hunting grounds.
