US Brig Niagara : Ship sails Lake Erie's/Great Lakes! waters. Home Port – Erie, Pennsylvania Mission – Serves as a reminder of one of the United States' greatest naval victories of the 19th century and of the nearly two centuries of peace between the United States and Canada that have followed. To compliment her crew of 17 professionals, she carries up to 24 trainees who sign on as crew (in training) and live onboard for two to four weeks to delve deeply into the 19th century sailor!s experience. They learn the language, learn the way of a ship, and learn how to hand, reef, and steer under the tutiledge of the ship!s professional crew. During the winter she is maintained by five full-time staff and a corps of 50 to 100 volunteers from the Erie region who donate maintenance hours, which are valued towards their tuition to sail as trainees during the summer. Barque EUROPA : Ship sails the sea of the world including expeditions to Antarctica, Tall Ship® s! races and long ocean crossings. Home Port – Scheveningen/Amsterdam, Netherlands Mission – A sailing vessel that allows many to experience life on the ship. -The ship was put into service as Elbe 3 lightship on the river Elbe, and later worked as a stand-by vessel. In 1986 the ship was brought to the Netherlands. Over a period of 8 years, she was completely rebuilt and rigged as a three- masted bark. The rebuilding and conversion to a sailing vessel was carried out under the supervision of the Dutch Shipping Inspection, Bureau Veritas and Register Holland. She sails with worldwide certificates from each of these authorities and she complies with the highest requirements for sailing ships. o With a professional crew of maximum 14 and a complement of 48 voyage crew members of all ages and nationalities, EUROPA is powered by canvas and co-operation. ZEETO : ZEETO Built 1954, by a building architect in Sarasota, Florida, after a design by Howard Chappelle for an 1850's fishing schooner. ZEETO means "long live the king" in Greek. It sailed the Caribbean as a private vessel for many years, making its way to Boston, where it was advertised as "the three-masted vessel in Boston Harbor without cannons," and was chartered. In the late 1990's, it came to Lake Superior where it was chartered until 2002. Its present owner, Doug Hansen of Minneapolis, MN, renovated the vessel to exceptional condition and sails it around Lake Superior
